Product attributes

Completed

Product attributes, or product specifications, are user-defined data points about a product that can further describe a specific product, such as the type of fabric or material that they are made of. Attributes differ from product dimensions in that they are not used to differentiate unique items that are inventoried. Attributes are used for information and product search.

A user can create product attributes for any number of product components. The product attributes’ properties are configured by assigning user-defined attribute types that can be reused for similar attributes.

The following example shows an attribute in the Attributes page in Retail and Commerce > Products and categories > Attributes.

These attribute types can be defined as Text fields, Fixed list text fields, and Currency, DateTime, Decimal, Integer, Boolean, and Reference fields to aid in data consistency and entry. Valid attribute value ranges can also be set. For example, only values of 1-10 are valid.

The Attribute types page is in Retail and Commerce > Products and categories > Attributes > Attribute types.

Product attributes can then be grouped together into product attribute groups in the Retail and Commerce > Products and categories > Attributes > Attribute groups page.

Attribute groups can then be configured into retail categories or Commerce channels in Retail and Commerce > Channel setup > Channel categories and product attributes.
