What is Learning Agent?
Learning Agent is an AI-powered learning and enablement system designed to help employees continuously learn, adopt AI tools, and build skills directly in the flow of work.
It is more than a traditional learning platform. It acts as a conversational, personalized, and adaptive learning assistant embedded within Microsoft 365 experiences.
What can Learning Agent do?
Learning Agent can:
Help employees understand how AI tools such as Copilot apply to their specific roles and tasks.
Provide contextual learning content recommendations based on user roles, skills, work patterns, and activity signals.
Deliver “Tip of the Day” nudges and in-product guidance that reinforce learning through small, actionable steps.
Answer conversational “How do I do X?” questions with contextual assistance.
Support continuous, personalized upskilling journeys.
Generate adaptive, AI-driven learning recommendations and dynamic learning paths.
Aggregate content from enterprise systems, LinkedIn Learning, LMS platforms, and Microsoft learning ecosystems into a unified experience.
Enable users to access Learning Agent within Microsoft 365 apps such as Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Learning Agent does not access or use customer content within those apps.
Trigger contextual learning prompts based on users’ workflows or activities. For more information, see the People Skills AI transparency note.
Enable enterprise-wide onboarding and AI-adoption programs through administrator-led learning initiatives.
Provide aggregated analytics and reporting to measure adoption, engagement, and learning effectiveness in accordance with cumulative reporting and privacy standards.
Support skill assessments, personalized plans, coaching, simulations, and microlearning experiences.
Offer scenario-based, guided “learn while doing” experiences.
Unify fragmented learning ecosystems through a single conversational discovery interface.
Measure whether learning activities are improving productivity, performance, and business outcomes.
What are the intended uses of Learning Agent?
Learning Agent is intended to:
Help employees understand how AI applies to their daily work and adopt relevant skills through real-world scenarios.
Enable continuous, adaptive upskilling journeys personalized to individual users without requiring manual curation at scale.
Embed learning directly within Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences, enabling users to learn while working.
Act as a central enablement layer for enterprise rollouts, supporting both IT and Learning and Development initiatives.
Support hands-on, interactive learning experiences that emphasize doing rather than only consuming content.
Provide a unified interface for discovering and consuming learning content.
Enable measurement of learning impact against business metrics.
How was Learning Agent evaluated?
Learning Agent is regularly evaluated through LLM-based assessments and human red-team exercises.
It is assessed for:
Accuracy
Relevance
Usefulness

Exception handling
Response grounding
Citation relevance
What are the limitations of Learning Agent?
Learning Agent is designed exclusively for learning and upskilling scenarios. It will decline requests that fall outside these intended purposes.
How can users minimize the impact of Learning Agent’s limitations?
Users should:
Use Learning Agent for learning and upskilling-related scenarios.
Provide clear and specific questions.
Review the cited learning materials when validating important information.
Provide feedback when a response is inaccurate, incomplete, or unhelpful.
What operational factors and settings support the effective and responsible use of Learning Agent?
Learning Agent works most effectively when administrators configure and maintain high-quality learning sources in Viva Learning.
Administrators should:
Identify the SharePoint sites and other approved repositories where learning content is stored.
Ensure that content is properly synchronized, indexed, permissioned, and kept up to date.
Organize content using clear metadata, titles, and descriptions.
Remove outdated or duplicate learning materials.
Maintain approved and relevant learning sources.
When learning sources are properly configured, Learning Agent can retrieve more relevant content, ground its responses in approved materials, and provide more accurate and useful recommendations.
For configuration instructions, see Set up Learning Agent | Microsoft Learn.
How do I provide feedback on Learning Agent?
End users can provide feedback on every Learning Agent response through the in-agent feedback mechanisms:
