Important
The modern print platform is Windows' preferred means of communicating with printers. We recommend that you use Microsoft's IPP inbox class driver, along with Print Support Apps (PSA), to customize the print experience in Windows 10 and 11 for printer device development.
For more information, see Modern print platform and the Print support app design guide.
Since v4 printer drivers are invoked directly from the Driver Store, and they are also expected to communicate with low-rights applications like Internet Explorer, it is important to follow the recommended best practices when you develop v4 printer drivers.
This section discusses the following topics:
Work with enhanced point and print
V4 printer driver security considerations
For more information about printer driver development best practices, see Best Practices Guide for Developing Printer Drivers.
