Disc packaging requirements

Important

This article describes features that require enrollment as an XBOX creator. To get started, register for ID@XBOX. If you're already enrolled but aren't able to use the described features, speak to your XBOX contactsAuthorization required.

To promote visual consistency across all XBOX products, all physical disc releases are required to use standard packaging templates, iconography, logos, fonts, and hardware imagery.

All assets that you might require are available for download from the XBOX Brand Assets portal. For more information, see Branding and Marketing.

Creating game packaging artwork

Fully localized XBOX disc game packaging templates are available to download from RAD.

Your game might qualify for front and back of pack iconography, including the Optimized for XBOX Series X and Smart Delivery feature icons. The templates include guidance and qualification criteria for display of icons on your packaging.

Reach out to Microsoft Art Certification SupportAuthorization required with any template related questions.

Submitting packaging artwork for approval

Before using packaging and product related artwork in manufacturing, you must submit each component to the Microsoft Art Certification team for approval. Submit all components used in each edition of your game, such Finished Product Unit (FPU), Special, Limited, and Collector’s Editions.

Submissions are managed through the Apollo portal (see Useful LinksAuthorization required for access). All game titles must be added to the Apollo portal before submissions can be made. For Apollo access requests, game title additions, and support, contact Microsoft Art Certification Support. For contact details, see Who are your Microsoft contacts?Authorization required.

Packaging requirements for Release to Manufacture (RTM)

Before an XBOX disc can be approved for Release to Manufacture (RTM), you must have the following packaging materials approved in the Apollo tool.

  • An Outer Wrap component for at least one market where the physical product is distributed.

If you submit approval for a disc to RTM before the necessary packaging materials are submitted and approved, the RTM request is blocked. You might be required to submit other packaging materials for approval before you can pack-out your product at your chosen Authorized Replicator (AR).

Note

When submitting physical packaging components for review and approval in the Apollo portal, list each individual country/region where that component is distributed as part of your physical package. Failure to disclose countries/regions accurately might result in the asset being rejected or your RTM request being blocked.
