I no longer get suggested code in Visual Studio from Copilot

Hi all;

After upgrading Visual Studio, I had to remove the two Copilot extensions as it said they were not compatible with the latest version. And there are no Copilot extensions available.

I do have the Copilot chat window and it works fine.

But I no longer get Copilot code suggestions when editing in Visual Studio.

How do I get that back?

Hi @David Thielen ,

For VS 17.10 or higher, GitHub Copilot(Chat and Completions) is built-in.

You can open VS Installer => Modify => Individual components and make sure that the "GitHub Copilot" component has been installed.

If it has been installed, please try to reinstall it(uncheck the option > Modify > check it again > Modify).

@Tianyu Sun-MSFT I checked the installer - Copilot is installed. And Copilot Chat is working great. It's only Completions not working. Is there some setting that turns that on/off?

@David Thielen , yes, try this option => Tools > Options > GitHub > Copilot => Copilot Completions > Enable Copilot Completions.

@Tianyu Sun-MSFT Thank you. I enabled that (no idea how it got disabled).

Is there a page somewhere that explains all of these options? Because I think I might want to enable some others.

Hi @David Thielen,

I didn’t see specific documents which describe these options. The GitHub Copilot was integrated into VS recently (since 17.10.0), it’s still being improved. I guess the documentation will be updated in the future.

I have the exact same problem, chat is working but not suggestions, "enable copilot completions" is enabled:
