El ejemplo siguiente es una utilidad de línea de comandos denominada ExpandTabs que reemplaza los caracteres de tabulación de un archivo de texto por cuatro espacios, el valor definido por la tabSize
variable . Redirige los flujos de entrada y salida estándar a los archivos, pero usa la Error propiedad para escribir el flujo de error estándar en la consola. Se puede iniciar desde la línea de comandos proporcionando el nombre del archivo que contiene caracteres de tabulación y el nombre del archivo de salida.

En las aplicaciones de consola cuya salida informativa se redirige a menudo a un archivo, el flujo de error estándar disponible a través de la Error propiedad se puede usar para mostrar información en la consola aunque se redirija la salida. En el ejemplo siguiente se muestran tablas de productos para 10 números a la vez a partir de 1. Después de cada conjunto de 10 números, la Error propiedad se usa para preguntar al usuario si desea mostrar el siguiente conjunto. Si la salida estándar se redirige a un archivo, el usuario todavía se pregunta si la rutina debe generar el siguiente conjunto de productos.
