Cost control (form)

Click Project management and accounting > Common > Projects > All projects. Select or open a project. On the Action Pane, on the Control tab, in the Costs group, click Cost control.

Click Project management and accounting > Common > Projects > Project contracts. Select or open a project contract. On the Action Pane, on the Control tab, in the Monitor group, click Cost control.

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 or cumulative update 7 or later for AX 2012 R2: Click Project management and accounting > Common > Project resources > Resources. On the Action Pane, on the Project resource tab, in the Project control group, click Cost control.

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 or cumulative update 7 or later for AX 2012 R2: Click Project management and accounting > Common > Project resources > Resource availability. On the Action Pane, on the Project resource tab, in the Project control group, click Cost control.
Use this form to calculate and analyze the costs of a project or a set of projects.
Navigating the form
The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Transactions |
Open the transactions form to view an itemized calculation of hour, expense, or item transaction cost amounts that you have calculated in the Cost control form. |
Total forecast |
Open the forecast transaction form to view hour, expense, or item forecast cost amounts that you have calculated in the Cost control form. If you are using project budget control, select the budget forecast model that is used by this project. |
Original forecast |
Open the forecast form to view original hour, expense, or item forecast cost amounts that you have calculated in the Cost control form. If you are using project budget control, select the budget forecast model that is used by this project. |
Committed cost |
The committed costs for item tasks. |
Export to Microsoft Excel |
Export information from the form into Microsoft Excel. |

Select the project types that you want to include in the calculation. |
Include transaction types |
Select the transaction types that you want to include in the calculation. |
From date/ To date (Project date) |
Specify a date range for the posted transactions that you want to include in the calculation. |
From date/ To date (Ledger date) |
Specify a date range for the posted transactions that you want to include in the calculation. |
Include subprojects |
Select this check box if you want to include project and ledger transactions from subprojects in the calculation. |
Total |
Select the total forecasted model. This field is visible only if the Total method is selected in the Project management and accounting parameters form. |
Remaining |
Select the remaining forecast model. This field is visible only if the Remaining method is selected in the Project management and accounting parameters form. |
Original |
Select the original forecasted model. |
Show by |
Select the principle by which you want the cost lines to be calculated. Open a menu that contains the following items:

Cost template |
Select the cost template that contains the cost lines by which you want to view rows totaled in the calculation results. The Cost template field is enabled when you select Cost template in the Show by field. |
Cost line |
The type of grouping for which costs are being reported. The groupings that appear in the Cost line column are determined by the selection that you make in the Show by field. |
Total budgeted cost |
The total budgeted cost. This column is visible only if the Total method is selected in the Project management and accounting parameters form. |
Actual cost |
The actual cost for the selected cost line. |
Committed cost |
The total committed cost for the cost line. |
Remaining cost |
The remaining budgeted amount for the cost line. This column is visible only if the Remaining method is selected in the Project management and accounting parameters form. |
Total cost |
The sum of the Actual cost, Committed cost, and Remaining cost field values. This column is visible only if the Remaining method is selected in the Project management and accounting parameters form. |
Variance |
The difference between the actual and committed costs. This column is visible only if the Total method is selected in the Project management and accounting parameters form. |
Original budget |
The original budgeted amount for the cost line. |
Deviation |
The difference between the total cost and the original budgeted cost for the cost line. |
Variance based on quantity |
The total difference in amount between the original forecast and the total forecast. This difference can be expressed mathematically as [(Total forecast quantity) * (Original average price – Total average price)] |
Variance based on price |
The total difference in amount between the original forecast and the total forecast. This difference can be expressed mathematically as [(Original forecast price) * (Original forecast quantity – Total forecast quantity)] |
