Solution

Instead of using:

  <AotAssemblies>true</AotAssemblies>
</PropertyGroup>

Use instead:

<PropertyGroup Condition=" '$(Configuration)' == 'Release' ">
  <RunAOTCompilation>true</RunAOTCompilation>
</PropertyGroup>
