Notes

  • To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must be designated as a telephony administrator (for information about designating telephony administrators, see Related Topics). If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group can perform this procedure only if the Domain Admins group is a member of the Administrators group. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure. For more information, see Default local groups, Default groups, and Using Run as.

  • By default, members of groups with administrative credentials for a telephony server already have access to all telephony lines or phones on that server and therefore do not need to be assigned lines or phones on the server. Members of the local Administrators group can access all lines or phones on that server from any other computer in the domain. By default, members of the Domain Admins group can access all telephony lines and phones on all servers in the domain.

  • To open Telephony, click Start, click Run, and then type tapimgmt.msc.

  • After you perform this procedure, telephony client programs run by the user will be able to use the line or phone on the telephony server.

  • A user added for a phone or line must be in the same domain as the telephony server or in a domain that has a two-way trust relationship with the domain containing the server.

  • If the user's domain is not listed in the Locations dialog box, try specifying the domain in Enter the object names to select by using the following format:

    domain\username

  • Before a user can use the telephony line or phone, the telephony server must be specified on the client computer. For more information, see Related Topics.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
