dayofweek function

Returns the day of week of the date or timestamp. This function is a synonym for extract(DAYOFWEEK FROM expr).

Note

When extracting fields from a TIMESTAMP (TIMESTAMP_LTZ), the result is based on the session timezone.

Syntax

dayofweek(expr)

Arguments

• expr: A DATE, TIMESTAMP, or TIMESTAMP_NTZ expression.

Returns

An INTEGER where 1 = Sunday, and 7 = Saturday.

Examples

> SELECT dayofweek('2009-07-30');
 5
