Subscription tools for the Azure MCP Server overview

The Azure MCP Server allows you to manage Azure resources, including subscriptions, using natural language prompts. This server enables you to quickly list subscriptions without needing to remember complex syntax.

Azure Subscriptions provide a way to organize and manage access to Azure resources. Subscriptions are the foundation for resource management, billing, and access control in Azure.

Tool parameters: The Azure MCP Server tools define parameters for data they need to complete tasks. Some of these parameters are specific to each tool and are documented below. Other parameters are global and shared by all tools. For more information, see Tool parameters.

List subscriptions

List all Azure subscriptions for the current account. Returns subscriptionId, displayName, state, tenantId, and isDefault for each subscription. The isDefault field indicates the user's default subscription as resolved from the Azure CLI profile (configured via az account set) or, if not set there, from the AZURE_SUBSCRIPTION_ID environment variable.

Example prompts include:

  • List subscriptions: "Show me all of my subscriptions."
  • Find subscriptions: "List all subscriptions starting with northeast."
  • Find default: "Which subscription is my default?"
