Microsoft Azure Information Protection Plan 1 end of sale – January 2024

Important reminders and resources for partners with Microsoft Azure Information Protection Plan 1 subscriptions.

  • Date: February 23, 2024
  • Workspace: General
  • Impacted audience: Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partners

Azure Information Protection (AIP) is on a modernization and integration journey. The goal of this journey is to provide an advanced classification, labeling, and protection stack for our customers with Microsoft Purview Information Protection and Microsoft 365.

Customers were notified of the upcoming retirement of the AIP Unified Labeling add-in for Office in April 2024 via message center posts in April 2023, and we continue to encourage them to migrate to the equivalent / superior capabilities Information Protection features that are built in to Microsoft 365.

As part of this journey, partners and customers can no longer purchase new standalone subscriptions for AIP P1 as of January 2024. A Microsoft 365 Partner Community post was published in December 2023.

Why was the Azure Information Protection (AIP) P1 standalone removed from the price list in January 2024?

Removing the AIP P1 standalone from the price list is a step in the journey to migrate customers to subscription plans and offers that include Microsoft Purview Information Protection. AIP was originally built for desktop/on-premises use with a downloaded desktop client. Native labeling, and other classification and protection capabilities that are in AIP are included as part of subscription plans and offers that include Microsoft Purview Information Protection:

  • Microsoft 365 E3
  • Microsoft 365 E5 Information Protection and Governance
  • Microsoft 365 E5
  • Office 365 E3
  • Office 365 E5
  • Enterprise Mobility and Security E3
  • Enterprise Mobility and Security E5
  • Microsoft 365 F3 and Business Premium

What's the impact?

The standalone SKU is removed from the volume licensing and CSP price lists meaning partners can no longer purchase new subscriptions for the offer. Partners can continue to use existing or previously purchased subscriptions. This includes adding seats to existing subscriptions and having them renew to new terms.

Which customer segments will this impact?

These changes include all customer segments: Commercial, Small and Medium Business (SMB), Academic, Government, and nonprofit/charity.

Next Steps

Customers and partners should explore the resources to find out more about the future of information protection:

Monthly Update: Important actions partners need to take to secure the partner ecosystem

Important capabilities and updates to improve your security posture and protect your customers' tenants are now available.

  • Date: February 15, 2024
  • Workspace: General
  • Impacted audience: Direct bill partners, indirect providers, and indirect resellers transacting through the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program and with advisors

Coming soon: Security workspace in Partner Center

From April 1, 2024 onwards, partners will be able to access Security workspace in Partner Center. This workspace is a centralized platform that helps partners evaluate their security situation and take the required actions to enhance their security posture. The workspace will make the user experience easier, provide learning resources, and serve as a single place for all security-related matters in Partner Center.

Available now: Customer MFA Reporting

We're thrilled to introduce Customer's multifactor authentication (MFA) reporting within Partner Center's insights workspace. This feature provides consolidated views of Customer MFA statistics of your customers' tenant security posture, specifically focusing on multifactor authentication (MFA). By analyzing this aggregate data, you gain actionable insights to drive proactive measures. Ensuring MFA compliance across all customer accounts and strengthens defenses against potential compromises.

Microsoft's strong recommendation

Activate Security default or Conditional Access and enforce MFA for all your customer's users.

  • Microsoft is taking proactive steps to bolster security for partners in the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program. We're excited to announce that starting from February 12, 2024, Microsoft will begin to enable security defaults for existing CSP tenants who haven't enabled security defaults or Conditional Access. For CSP partners with Microsoft Entra ID P1 or P2 licenses, Conditional Access offers fine-grained control over access policies.

  • CSP partners can now access the Partner Center activity logs for changes to the Security alert status. To access audit logs, go to Account Settings and select activity logs. Now, you can search all activities by Azure fraud event detected, Resolved or in Investigating status.

Reminders

  • CSP partners are required to review and improve the security posture of their tenant by accessing Security requirements dashboard for Partner Center. The Security Requirements dashboard empowers you to proactively manage and enhance your security posture and drive towards the Zero Trust Principles.

  • The Partner Center Security alerts dashboard helps partners respond quickly to security, fraud, and other events occurring in their Partner Center or their customer's tenant. Partners must act within 24 hours to mitigate the impact.

Update to the process for generating API tokens to access Commercial Marketplace Insights reports

We aligned our API behaviors for exporting Insights reports to more closely match with other Partner Center APIs. You're now required to use a different resource for token generation.

  • Date: February 7, 2024
  • Workspace: Insights, APIs
  • Impacted audience: ISV partners

We made a change to how you get tokens for our service. You need to use https://graph.microsoft.com as the resource parameter instead of https://api.partnercenter.microsoft.com.

If you use the old URL (https://graph.microsoft.com), your tokens will stop working after 31 March 2024. Switch to the new URL as soon as possible.

Toll-free numbers for Microsoft Teams now supported on NCE

The New Commerce Experience (NCE) now supports the ability to acquire toll-free numbers for Microsoft Teams.

  • Date: February 07, 2024
  • Workspace: General
  • Impacted audience: Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partners, direct-bill partners, and indirect providers who use NCE license-based pricing in all markets/currencies.

We have exciting news! The New Commerce Experience (NCE) now supports the ability to acquire toll-free numbers for Microsoft Teams.

Previously, customers would need to subscribe to Communication Credits to be able to acquire toll-free numbers for Audio Conferencing, auto attendant and call queue capabilities available with Microsoft Teams Phone. The requirement for Communication Credits blocked customers on NCE from acquiring toll-free numbers.

For customers who are moving from legacy (Communication Credits) to NCE or have already moved from legacy to NCE: Partners must confirm pay-as-you-go is set up for toll-free numbers in the customer's subscription:

Disable "Auto-recharge" for Communication Credits (if currently or previously on legacy)

  • When the Communications Credit has a positive balance, the commerce tool uses the remaining Communication Credits for billing until the remaining balance is drained.
  • When the Communications Credit balance is zero, and telco pay-as-you-go has been configured for the customer by the CSP, the commerce system moves the customer to postpaid and the new meter is validated.

Important

Most customers have the "Auto-recharge" flag enabled within their account which will automatically refill their Communications Credit balance to whatever threshold level they configured it. You will need to disable this option if they wish to utilize the consumption meter; otherwise, the Communications Credit balance will indefinitely refill itself and the commerce system won't switch to the post-pay mechanism.

Asynchronous APIs for retrieving billed and unbilled daily rated usage data is now generally available

We're excited to announce that the asynchronous APIs to get billed and unbilled daily rated usage data is now generally available in Partner Center. These APIs offer a faster and more manageable way to access billing and reconciliation data through Azure blobs. With these APIs, you don't need to keep a connection open for hours or loop through millions of transactions one by one.

  • Date: February 2, 2024
  • Workspace: APIs
  • Impacted audience: All global CSP partners

The asynchronous APIs use valet key and asynchronous request-reply patterns. When you use these APIs, you get a token that you can use to access either all the attributes or a subset of the daily rated usage reconciliation data.

To access the data asynchronously, see Retrieve billed and unbilled daily rated usage data asynchronously.

Note

The current synchronous API V1 and asynchronous API V2 (beta) will continue to run alongside the new generally available (GA) asynchronous API V2.

If you're using API V2 beta, you can upgrade to the GA version with minimal changes. For more information, see the previous link. And if you're using synchronous API V1, consider upgrading to the GA version of API V2 to take advantage of some great features described in the following section.

Known limitations

You can use these APIs for the MS Graph public/global cloud only now. They are not yet available for Azure Government or Azure China 21Vianet.

Benefits

The asynchronous APIs offer several benefits that can help you save time and improve your data retrieval process. Here are some of the key advantages:

  • Faster data retrieval: The new APIs are over 85% faster than the existing synchronous APIs, allowing you to retrieve data more quickly and efficiently.
  • Compressed data delivery: Data is delivered in compressed JSON format, reducing the size of the data.
  • No need for constant connectivity: With the asynchronous APIs, you can retrieve data without needing to maintain a constant connection or go through repeated cycles.
  • Customizable responses: You can select the attributes you want to include in the response, reducing payload and making it easier to work with the data.
  • Convenient data access: Data is split into segments based on the number of records, making it easier to access.

Next steps

To get started with the new asynchronous APIs, follow these steps:

  • Review the documentation and sample code to learn how to use these APIs.
  • Inform your developers and request that they update your existing systems to integrate with the new APIs.
  • Use the endpoints for billed and unbilled usage data, depending on your needs. The endpoints are separate and require different parameters.
  • The asynchronous API V2 for invoice reconciliation data will soon be available as a pilot program for a select group of partners. In the coming weeks, we'll contact you to confirm your interest in participating in the pilot program.

We hope you find the asynchronous APIs useful and convenient for your reconciliation needs. Please share your feedback to help us improve the APIs.

Introducing end of sale with conversions

We're introducing a new state, end of sale with conversions, which allows partners to upgrade to selected product/SKU/terms destinations that are no longer available for new purchase, but are now available for conversion into.

  • Date: February 1, 2024
  • Workspace: APIs
  • Impacted audience: Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partners

End of sale (EOS) represents offers that are no longer available for purchase in the new commerce experience. EOS scenarios can apply to entire product/SKUs, regions/markets, and specific term durations.

The new state, end of sale with conversions (EndOfSaleWithConversions), is available now. This state allows partners to upgrade to selected product/SKU/terms destinations that are no longer available for new purchase, but are available for conversion into.

In the Partner Center Portal, eligible EndOfSaleWithConversions destination subscriptions show under the Upgrade Subscription flow (within the Eligible upgrades section), for both immediate and scheduled upgrades.

There are no changes to the API schema, including request/response, but partners can use the Get transition eligibility API call to show a customer’s upgrade paths that include eligible EndOfSaleWithConversions destination subscriptions. As with other upgrades, partners can upgrade using EndOfSaleWithConversions Catalog Item IDs for the upgrade action.

The price list preview will continue to show products moving to EOS in that preview month, including the new state, EndOfSaleWithConversions.

Note

Partners won't be able to change term or billing frequency for EndOfSaleWithConversions destinations as with the existing EOS behavior. However, Partners can update seats and coterm their subscriptions.
