SharePoint Document Management software requirements for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013

If you want to use Microsoft SharePoint document management functionality with Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2013 or Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, you must meet the following requirements.

One of the following versions of Microsoft SharePoint must be available.

  • Microsoft SharePoint 2013 or Microsoft SharePoint 2013 SP1

  • Microsoft SharePoint 2010 SP1 or SP2

A SharePoint site collection. You also have to have at least one site collection configured and available for Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 list component. For Microsoft Dynamics CRM documents that are stored on SharePoint to appear in a format that has the look and feel of Microsoft Dynamics CRM, and to have automatic folder creation in SharePoint, the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 list component, a SharePoint solution, must be installed to the SharePoint site collection. Important

Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2013 versions aren’t supported for use with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 document management.

You can’t use Internet Explorer 7 with Microsoft Dynamics CRM (on-premises) document management deployments that use SharePoint 2013. For more information, see Plan browser support in SharePoint 2013.

Currently, Server-based SharePoint integration is not supported with Microsoft Dynamics CRM (on-premises).

The user who accesses SharePoint from CRM must have appropriate permissions on the SharePoint site collection where the document management components are installed. For more information about how to grant membership on a site collection, see the SharePoint Help.

Using document management in Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online

One of the following versions of Microsoft SharePoint must be available.

  • Microsoft SharePoint 2013 or Microsoft SharePoint 2013 SP1

  • Microsoft SharePoint 2010 SP1 or SP2

  • Microsoft SharePoint Online

A SharePoint site collection. You also have to have at least one site collection configured and available for Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

The list component is not required if you use server-based SharePoint integration. Although the Microsoft Dynamics CRM List Component is the default document management configuration option, we recommend that you enable server-based SharePoint integration, a feature that’s available in Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Spring ‘14. Important

On-premises versions of SharePoint require the Microsoft Dynamics CRM List Component, and currently aren’t supported for server-based SharePoint integration.

Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2013 versions aren’t supported for use with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 document management.

Server-based SharePoint integration

Earlier versions of CRM document management use a client-to-server strategy to authenticate and transmit data from Microsoft Dynamics CRM to SharePoint. For the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Spring ‘14 release, system administrators can enable server-based (using server-to-server authentication) SharePoint integration that provides the following benefits:

  • User interface that is consistent with the newly updated Microsoft Dynamics CRM user interface.

  • To configure and use document management, you do not need to be signed in to both Microsoft Dynamics CRM and SharePoint.

  • You no longer need to install or continue to use the Microsoft Dynamics CRM List Component solution. Notice that client-to-server authentication strategies that require SharePoint Online server sandboxing may become deprecated soon. This functionality is required by the Microsoft Dynamics CRM List Component.

Note

You can create and view folders when using the Microsoft Dynamics CRM List Component. This is not available in server-based SharePoint integration.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 List Component for Microsoft SharePoint

The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 List Component for Microsoft SharePoint makes Microsoft Dynamics CRM documents that are stored on SharePoint available to you in a format that has the look and feel of Microsoft Dynamics CRM. This feature also enables Microsoft Dynamics CRM to automatically create folders that will be used to store documents related to CRM records on SharePoint.

The Microsoft Dynamics CRM List Component has the following benefits:

  • Users can create and view folders when using document management within Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

  • Users can create custom content types such as a Sales Contract content type.

When you use the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online document management server-based SharePoint integration feature with SharePoint Online, the Microsoft Dynamics CRM List Component is not required to display a list view or to automatically create folders in SharePoint.

However, for all other Microsoft Dynamics CRM and SharePoint configurations, for full document management functionality in Microsoft SharePoint 2010 or Microsoft SharePoint 2013, you must install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM List Component.

Important

  • The Microsoft Dynamics CRM List Component isn’t required when you use the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online document management feature with SharePoint Online.

  • There are two versions of the CRM 2013 List Component for SharePoint:

    • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 List Component for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013. This version doesn’t work with SharePoint 2010.

    • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 List Component for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. This version doesn’t work with SharePoint 2013.
