Great time at Macworld this year...

Update: TUAW has posted a Macworld 07 interview with Sheridan that I've added to the list below.

I really had a great time at Macworld this year. I think having the blogger lounge there was quite an oasis for bloggers and I was happy to see the all nice comments from those who stopped by. The Microsoft booth was a great place to get questions answered and I'm always impressed by the expertise that Office for Mac customers have with the product.

A couple of links I wanted to post tonight include an interview that Product Unit Manager Eric Wilfred did with Adam from one of my favorite podcasts, The MacCast. Eric walks through some of the new features in Office 2008 for Mac and Adam followed up with some very interesting discussion. I was also able to talk to Merlin Mann from 43 Folders and MacBreak. We talked a bit about my favorite productivity features in Entourage. The links to these interviews are here:

Maccast 2007.01.10 - Macworld Day 2
A podcast about all things Macintosh. For Mac geeks, by Mac geeks. Macworld 2007 Day 2. A collection of interviews from on and around the show floor at Macworld. I have chats with Centurion Technologies, Nova Media, Microsoft’s Mac Buisness Unit (Mac BU), Mariner Software, and MyMac.com.

MacBreak 56 Macworld 2007: Macworld with Merlin, cont'd.
Merlin continues his tour of the show floor, speaking with Dan Moren from MacUser, Brian Johnson from Microsoft and indulging in his most relaxing interview.

Macworld 2007 Show Floor Showoff: Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac
Microsoft's Sheridan Jones was nice enough to sit down with me in the Microsoft Blogger Lounge at Macworld to discuss Office 2008 for Mac.

If you want to read some of the posts from bloggers who stopped by the lounge, check out this Technorati Search

So, many thanks to all the customers and the bloggers who we talked to last week. I find it really energizing to talk about the stuff that we're working on and about technology in general. Thanks also to all the Mac BU folks who put aside all the work they have to do to spend time at Macworld. We couldn't do this show without them.

I can't wait for next year!

Your blogger lounge was one of the few places to go online and plug in my MacBook Pro. I'm surprised that there was no wifi in either of the exhibit floors, only in the hallway between them.

I would just like to say, I've seen the Office 2008 screenshots on www.tuaw.com and I'm very impressed with what I see so far. Will there be a demo available shortly before release?

Do I understand correctly that Office 2008 will only run on Intel-based Macs?

Actually, pb, Office 2008 will be a Universal binary, so it will run natively on both PPC and Intel Macs.

Are there any undocumented APIs and performance advantages in the Windows version of Office compared to the Mac OS X Universal version?

Will there be improved Exchange support in entourage for things like calendar (need to be able to reserve resources), Tasks (need my tasks to sync so I can use multiple machines and project sharing just doesn't cut it), and notes? Will MyDay sync with the Exchange server?

I'll repeat Sharon's question because it's so significant that it bears repeating. >>> Will there be improved Exchange support? I think this needs to happen on both the Outlook and Entourage sides. I need my tasks and categories created and set in Outlook to be available when I use Entourage. You are sooo close, Office and Exchange teams, and yet so very far away. It's not like these data types should even approach the complexity of VisualBasic or Access.

I am another request for knowing if Exchange support for tasks will be available for Entourage 2008. Yes? Without I would stick with Outlook 2003 or 2007 in Parallels.

I second the question regarding a beta - will there be one?
