Subscriptions Downloads and Personalization issue resolved - Last Updated: 2008/10/04 @ 7:41pm PST

7:41pm :: We have received notification from our Ops team that the failure on our servers has been fully corrected. All functionality has been restored.

1:36pm :: I'm seeing reports from users that things are coming back online. Our operations team is still working on verifying the server, so you may see intermittent wonky behavior.

11:45am :: The downloads, product keys and personalization functionality of the Subscriptions system is currently offline. The server that contains all of our data related to these functionalities experienced a catastrophic failure this morning.

Normally we run in a mirrored configuration and would just have failed over, but we removed one of the servers from the mirror to upgrade it to SQL 2008 RTM - Murphy's Law at its sweetest.

I'll update this thread as more information becomes available.

i wonder if the catastrophic failure affected the ISOs, EXEs... that we can download from MSDN. :( Are they safe or they were damaged by the failure? :( [Chris responds: Nope -- all files are safe (stored elsewhere).  This store just has the meta data about the files.  We have backups and other safeguards - so nothing will be lost. It just becomes a matter of how long to get things back up and running.  As I've reported elsewhere, the system was recovered and is being integrity checked by our ops people now.  It should be fully backup before too long.]

Hum, still having problems I'm afraid... when I try and get to my downloads and keys page I just get a Live error. [Chris responds: Everything is up and running at this point (as far as I am aware). If you still experience issues, please sign into the blog and privately mail me with your contact information.]

I logged in and found out that only Windows Vista Home Basic and Home Basic N product keys are available. Would you please fix the problem?   [Julie replied: Kiki - you can get to all Vista keys from the Product Keys list page. Use th link in the subnavigation. We do have a fix for this and will be deploying it later this week,]
