How to Unpack a Site on the Business Management Server

For the latest version of Commerce Server 2007 Help, see the Microsoft Web site.

This topic provides steps for unpacking a site on the business management server. A site package (<site name>.pup), such as the StarterSite.pup package, includes the Commerce Server 2007 resources, Web services, and a StarterSite application framework. The StarterSite package provides a starting point for building a Web site that you can customize.

Note

Before you unpack a PuP package, verify that you are logged on as a member of the Administrators group.

Note

If you cancel the unpacking process, Commerce Server may not delete the databases that you created during the unpacking process.

To unpack a site on the business management server

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Commerce Server 2007 , point to Tools, and then click Site Packages.

  2. On the Welcome to Commerce Server Site Packager page, select Unpack from a package file (.pup), and then click Next.

  3. On the Unpack page, click Browse and locate the package file to unpack. Select Quick unpack, and then click Next.

  4. On the Quick Unpack page, make the following settings.

    Use this

    To do this

    Site name

Assign a name to your site, or accept the default name provided as the name of the Web site.

    IIS Web site

Select the name of the Internet Information Services (IIS) Web site that will host your site, or accept the Default Web Site as the IIS Web site. This must be an existing Web site. You can use the IIS management console to create a new IIS Web site.

All Commerce Server applications will be unpacked into virtual directories within the selected IIS Web site. If the virtual directories already exist, an error will occur. To overwrite the virtual directories with the applications being unpacked, select the Custom unpack option in the Unpack dialog box.

    SQL Server Computer

Enter the name of the computer that is running the instance of SQL Server that will host your site databases. One database for each resource in the site will be created in SQL Server. The database will be named <sitename>_<resourcename> (for example, startersite_marketing).

    ms915590.alert_caution(en-US,CS.70).gifCaution:
If the database already exists, unpacking will cause data in the database to be overwritten.

    Use Windows Integrated security

Specify Windows integrated security for the databases. We recommend this configuration.

When you use Windows integrated security, user names and passwords are not stored in the SQL Server connection string and are not affected by SQL password resets.

Use a specific user name and password

Specify SQL Server authentication for the databases. We do not recommend this configuration.

    SQL Server Login Name

For SQL Server authentication, specify the user name of the account that has logon rights to the server that is running SQL Server. Use a logon name that is a member of the sysadmin or dbcreator SQL Server roles. To avoid online analytical processing (OLAP) errors, do not use the following special characters:

    /?&\<>:|#@%'

    SQL Server Login Password

For SQL Server authentication, specify the password of the account that has logon rights to the server that is running SQL Server. To avoid OLAP errors, do not use the following special characters:

    /?&\<>:|#@%'

  5. On the Quick Unpack page, click Next.

  6. On the first of two Profiling System pages, click Next to accept the default settings.

  7. On the second Profiling System page, click OK to accept the default settings.

  8. In the Commerce Server Site Packager dialog box, review the list of resources that you configured to use Windows integrated security, and then click OK.

These resources require access permissions on the appropriate Windows accounts. You will assign permissions when you perform secure deployment tasks, see Configuring the Business Management Server.

  9. On the Unpacking is complete! page, click Finish.
