How to Edit a Category

This topic describes how to edit a category. You can edit the base properties, custom properties, category associations, product associations, and category relationships of a category.
To edit a category
Click Start, point to Microsoft Commerce Server 2007 , and then click Catalog Manager.
In Commerce Server Catalog Manager, in the Views pane, click Catalogs.
In the Catalogs pane, select the catalog and then the category that you want to edit.
Note
If there are more catalogs than can be listed in the Catalogs pane, you can search for category that you want to edit by using the Search pane.
In the Tasks pane, click Edit Category Properties.
In the <Category Name> screen you can edit the base properties, custom properties, category associations, product associations, and category relationships for the category.
To edit the base properties of a category
In the <Category Name> screen, on the Base Properties tab, do the following:

Category Name
View the category name that uniquely identifies this category in the base product catalog.
You cannot edit this box.
Definition Name
You cannot change the definition name of a category after it is created.
Display Name
Type a new display name for the category.
List Price
Type a new list price for the category.
Is Searchable
Select to specify that the category is searchable.
Description
Type a description for the category.
Click Save on the toolbar.
To edit the custom properties of a category
In the <Category Name> screen, on the Custom Properties tab, do the following:

Type a value for the custom property.
If the custom property is required, a value is displayed.
Note:The Double type custom property has a range of positive values that is approximately 2.23E –308 through 1.79E 308. The range of negative values is approximately –2.23E –308 through –1.79E 308. In the Custom Properties screen they are rounded off and appear with a precision of eight digits. If they are more than eight digits then Catalog Manager uses the E+ notation. For example, 9875.43216 is displayed as 9875.4321, whereas the number 1234567899 is displayed as 1.2345689e+09.Note:The Float (Decimal) type custom property has a range of positive values that is approximately 2.23E –308 through 1.79E 308. The range of negative values is approximately –2.23E –308 through –1.79E 308. In the Custom Properties screen they are rounded off and appear with a precision of seven digits. If they are more than seven digits then Catalog Manager uses the E+ notation. For example, 9875.43216 is displayed as 9875.432, whereas the number 12345678 is displayed as 1.234568e+07.Click Save on the toolbar.
To edit the category associations of a category
In the <Category Name> screen, on the Category Associations tab, do the following:

Primary category
Select the primary category from the drop-down list.
Each category and product can have one primary parent category. The primary parent category provides a canonical path of a child category or product. Additionally, if a product is in more than one category, and pricing is set at the category level, the price of the primary parent category overrides the price in all other categories that are using category pricing.
Parent Categories
Select to specify a parent category association.
If a product is in more than one category, and pricing is set at the category level, the price of the primary parent category overrides the price in all other categories that are using category pricing.
Child Categories
Select to specify a child category association.
Add
Click to use the Selection Picker dialog box to add more category associations.
Remove
Click to remove the selected category(s).
Remove All
Click to remove all categories.
Click Save on the toolbar.
To edit the product associations of a category
In the <Category Name> screen, on the Product Associations tab, do the following:

Click to use the Product Picker dialog box to select a product to add to the category.
Note:If the product you add to the category does not have a display name, the product ID will appear in the Display Name column.Remove
Click to remove the selected product(s).
Remove All
Click to remove all products.
Click Save on the toolbar.
To edit the category relationships of a category
In the <Category Name> screen, on the Category Relationships tab, do the following:

Click to use the Product Picker dialog box to select the product or category for which you want to create a relationship.
Relationship
Type the name of the relationship.
Note:If you add multiple relationships, you can sort them by clicking the column header. For example, you click the Relationship header to sort by relationship name.To change the order of the relationships, click either Move Up or Move Down.
Remove
Click to remove the selected relationship(s) from the category.
Remove All
Click to remove all relationships from the category.
Click Save on the toolbar.
