ApplicationName Property
This feature will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server. Avoid using this feature in new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use this feature.
The ApplicationName property identifies the client application to Microsoft SQL Server.
Syntax
object
.ApplicationName [=value]
Parts
object
An expression that evaluates to an object in the Applies To listvalue
A string
Data Type
String
Modifiable
Read/write if the SQLServer object is not connected to a SQL Server installation. Read-only if the SQLServer object is connected.
Prototype (C/C++)
HRESULT GetApplicationName(SQLDMO_LPBSTR pRetVal);
HRESULT SetApplicationName(SQLDMO_LPCSTR NewValue);
Note
SQL Distributed Management Objects (SQL-DMO) strings are always returned as OLE BSTR objects. A C/C++ application obtains a reference to the string. The application must release the reference by using SysFreeString.
Remarks
The ApplicationName property is visible on the SQL Server installation when tools such as SQL Server Profiler are used to investigate server activity. If the client does not set the property, SQL-DMO provides a default.
