How to: Start Report Builder (Report Builder 3.0)

SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services includes stand-alone and ClickOnce versions of Report Builder. The ClickOnce version can be used with Reporting Services installed in native or SharePoint integrated mode.

Note

Report Builder 3.0 cannot be installed on Itanium 64-based computers. This applies to the ClickOnce and stand-alone versions of Report Builder 3.0.

To start Report Builder ClickOnce in native mode, you click the Report Builder button in Report Manager or use the specified URL.

To start Report Builder in SharePoint integrated mode, you click the Report Builder Report option on the New Document menu.

If the ClickOnce version of Report Builder that opens is an earlier version of Report Builder, contact your administrator who can update Report Manager and the SharePoint site to use the SQL Server 2008 R2 version of Report Builder

You can also use the ClickOnce version of Report Builder to create reports on a PowerPivot for Excel workbook that has been published to SharePoint. For more information about using Report Builder with PowerPivot, see Create a Reporting Services Report with PowerPivot Data on technet.microsoft.com.

You start Report Builder stand-alone from the Start menu on your local computer. In contrast to the ClickOnce version, which you launch from Report Manager or a SharePoint library, you or an administrator must install Report Builder directly on your computer before the tool is available for you to use. The stand-alone version is not installed when you install SQL Server 2008 R2; you must download and install it separately. For more information, see Installing, Uninstalling, and Supporting Report Builder 3.0.
