Glossary (Duet Enterprise)

This glossary is provided for administrators of Duet Enterprise for Microsoft SharePoint and SAP who are deploying and configuring Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)

Active Directory Domain Services provide secure, structured, hierarchical data storage for objects in a network, such as users, computers, printers, and services. Active Directory Domain Services provide support for locating and working with these objects.

anonymous authentication

An authentication mode in which neither party verifies the identity of the other party.

anonymous user

A user who presents no credentials during authentication. The process for determining an anonymous user can differ depending on the authentication protocol; the documentation for the relevant authentication protocol should be consulted.

application model

In the Business Data Connectivity service, an object that contains one or more external content types and resources that are used by those external content types. Application models are primarily useful for importing and exporting sets of external content types and resources into and out of the Business Data Connectivity service.

application server

A computer that provides key infrastructure and services for applications that are hosted on a farm.

authentication

  • The ability of one entity to determine the identity of another entity.

  • The act of proving an identity to a server while providing key material which binds the identity to later communications.

BDC client runtime

The BDC Client Runtime uses Business Data Connectivity service data to connect to and execute operations on external data sources, such as an SAP system for rich client access.

BDC model

A file that contains sets of descriptions of one or more external content types, their related external data sources, and information that is specific to the environment, such as authentication properties.

BCS WCF Connector

The Microsoft Business Connectivity Services connector that delegates client actions to Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) external systems.

Central Administration Web site

A specialized Website in which a SharePoint administrator can manage all sites and servers in a farm that is running Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010.

claims-based identity

A unique identifier that represents a specific user, application, computer, or other entity. It enables that entity to gain access to multiple resources, such as applications and network resources, without having to enter its credentials multiple times. It also enables resources to validate requests from an entity.

content type

A named and uniquely identifiable collection of settings and fields that store metadata for individual items in a SharePoint list. One or more content types can be associated with a list, which restricts the list’s contents to items of those types.

data connection

  • A link between an application and a data source. Data connections can be used to query and submit data.

  • A collection of information, such as type and location, that defines how to connect to an external data source, such as a database, Web service, SharePoint list, or XML file.

  • A connection between an InfoPath form template and an external data source, as specified by settings in an InfoPath form template (.xsn) manifest file or in a universal data connection (.udcx) file.

declarative workflow

A workflow that is created by using Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML) files and that does not require precompiled code to run.

document library

A kind of SharePoint list that is a container for documents and folders.

Duet Enterprise for Microsoft SharePoint and SAP

A jointly developed product from SAP and Microsoft that enables interoperability between SAP applications and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Enterprise Edition. Duet Enterprise for Microsoft SharePoint and SAP empowers information workers to consume and extend SAP processes and information within Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and Microsoft Office 2010 client applications.

Duet Enterprise SAP Add-on

That part of Duet Enterprise for Microsoft SharePoint and SAP that is installed in the SAP environment.

Duet Enterprise SharePoint Add-on

That part of Duet Enterprise for Microsoft SharePoint and SAP that is installed in the Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 environment.

DuetConfig.exe

A utility program that is deployed with the Duet Enterprise SharePoint Add-on and used by administrators to install and configure Duet Enterprise for Microsoft SharePoint and SAP.

DuetConfig.exe.config

An XML format file that is used to configure the DuetConfig.exe utility for tasks such as configuring reporting and workflows.

Duet Enterprise claims provider

The Duet Enterprise component that issues claims and packages claims into security tokens for communications between the SharePoint and SAP systems. The claims provider is used during authentication and role synchronization.

Duet Enterprise Collaboration feature

The Duet Enterprise feature that enables SharePoint users to collaborate around SAP information and objects. This feature provides a set of templates to set up collaboration sites.

Duet Enterprise sites

A group of sites that are created by using a site collection template. These sites contain lists, libraries, and specialized Web Parts that are designed for viewing and managing SAP data.

Duet Enterprise site templates

Templates installed with Duet Enterprise that enable users to create Duet Enterprise sites.

Duet Enterprise solution

A collection of BDC models, Web Parts, site templates, and other components that support a particular use of Duet Enterprise.

Duet Enterprise Web Parts

Specialized Web Parts installed with Duet Enterprise that are designed for viewing and managing SAP data.

external content type

A reusable collection of metadata that defines a set of data from one or more external systems, the operations available on that data, and connectivity information related to that data.

external list

A list of items of an external content type.

external system

A supported source of data that can be modeled by Microsoft Business Connectivity Services, such as a database, Web service, or custom .NET Framework assembly.

Farm Administrators group

A SharePoint group whose members have permission to manage all of the servers in a server farm. Members of the Farm Administrators group can perform command-line operations and all administrative tasks in Central Administration for a server or server farm.

front-end Web server

A server that hosts Web pages, performs processing tasks, and accepts requests from protocol clients and sends them to the appropriate back-end servers for additional processing.

Microsoft Business Connectivity Services

The set of Office client and server services that enables the development of solutions with deep integration of external data and services.

Import BDC model

Adding a BDC model to the metadata store in the Business Data Connectivity service.

people picker

The SharePoint Server interface for assigning permissions to securable objects such as lists, folders, and Web sites.

privacy level

A setting that specifies the category of users who can view personal information about other users, such as user profile properties, colleagues, or memberships.

reporting site

A site that provides a list of all SAP reports that can be run within the SharePoint site and a library for collecting the reports.

role synchronization

The process of making SAP roles available in SharePoint Server so that they can be used to assign permissions to securable objects such as Web sites, lists, and documents.

SAP NetWeaver

SAP NetWeaver provides the technical foundation for SAP applications and is the SAP platform for Duet Enterprise.

Secure Store Service

A shared service that securely stores credential sets for external data sources and associates those credential sets to individual or group identities.

Security Token Service

The SharePoint Server Web service that supports identity management by providing security tokens that contain information about users.

security policy

In the form of a collection of security policy settings, an expression of administrative intent about how computers and resources on their network should be secured.

Service application

One of a set of SharePoint Server services that can be shared across Web applications.

site collection

A set of Web sites that are in the same content database, have the same owner, and share administration settings. A site collection can be identified by a GUID or the URL of the top-level site for the site collection. Each site collection contains a top-level site, can contain one or more subsites, and can have a shared navigation structure.

SSL certificate

A signed certificate that is used in Secure Sockets Layer to authenticate a system connecting with another system.

Starter Services

The site collection templates and solutions that enable Duet Enterprise users to quickly start working with the product. Starter Services include three site collection templates - Duet Enterprise Customers, Duet Enterprise Products, and Duet Enterprise Sites - together with a set of solutions. The solutions primarily provide the external content types and Web Parts for interacting with the SAP system by using the sites created from the templates.

Trust relationship

In the context of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), a trust relationship enables one computer system to authenticate transactions that are sent to it from another system using a trusted SSL certificate. In Duet Enterprise, such a trust relationship is established between the SharePoint and SAP systems.

user profile

A collection of properties that relate to a specific person or entity.

user profile service

A data source that stores, provides, and applies information about users.

user profile store

A database that stores information about each user profile.

user profile synchronization

Profile Synchronization in SharePoint Server 2010 enables an administrator of an instance of the User Profile service to synchronize user and group profile information that is stored in the SharePoint Server 2010 profile store with profile information that is stored in directory services and business systems across the enterprise.

Web application

A software application that uses HTTP as its core communication protocol and delivers information to the user by using Web-based languages such as HTML and XML.

Windows Administrators group

The group of users on a Windows server or client computer who have complete, unrestricted access to the computer.

Windows claims authentication

A Windows authentication mode that uses a set of claims about the user from a trusted source to identify the user instead of using a set of credentials such as names and passwords.

workflow

  • The automation of business processes, where business documents and tasks are passed automatically from one user to another for action, according to a set sequence.

  • A structured modular component that enables the automated movement of documents or items through a specific sequence of actions or tasks that are related to built-in or user-defined business processes.

workflow association

An association of a workflow template to a specific list or content type.

workflow site

A site for managing workflows that is included with Duet Enterprise.

workflow template

A definition of operations, the sequence of operations, constraints, and timing for a particular process.

workflow task

An action or task in a sequence that is related to a built-in or user-defined business process.

Web Services Description Language (WSDL)

An extensible XML format that describes network services as collections of communication endpoints.
