How to: Specify Browser Mix

A load test contains one or more scenarios, each of which contains one or more Web or unit tests. Each scenario contains one or more Web browsers, which are used to perform any Web tests in the scenario.

Note

If your Load test does not contain Web tests, for example if it contains only unit tests, you do not have to specify Browser Mix.

The browser mix of a scenario is a combination of two factors: the selection of browsers that are contained within the scenario, and the distribution of those browsers within the scenario. The browser mix should reflect the objectives of each particular scenario. For example, you could specify a browser mix of 95% Internet Explorer 6.0, and 5% Pocket IE 3.02.

Note

Distribution is a measure of the probability that a particular browser will be selected by a virtual user during a load test run. Distribution is expressed as a percentage. Therefore, the sum of the distribution numbers for all the browsers that are contained in a scenario is 100.

Specifying Browser Mix in the Load Test Wizard

When you first create a load test, you specify settings for the load test in the Load Test Wizard. In the Load Test Wizard, you choose browsers to add to the initial scenario. After you have added browsers to the scenario, you specify the browser mix for the scenario.

For more information, see How to: Launch the Load Test Wizard.

To specify browser mix in the Load Test Wizard

  1. On the Browser Mix page of the Load Test Wizard, click Add to add browsers to the scenario. For more information, see How to: Add Browsers to a Load Test Scenario.

  2. Select your preferred browser mix by adjusting the sliders in the Distribution column, or by typing the percentage values directly into the % column. For more information, see About the Mix Control.

  3. After you choose the browser mix, click Next to continue to the Network Mix page of the Load Test Wizard.

Specifying Browser Mix for an Existing Load Test

After you have created a load test, you can change the browser mix for any of the scenarios.

To specify browser mix for an existing load test

  1. Open a load test.

  2. Right-click the scenario whose browser mix you want to adjust, and choose Edit Browser Mix.

The Edit Browser Mix dialog box is displayed. If necessary, add new browsers to the scenario. For more information, see How to: Add Browsers to a Load Test Scenario.

  3. Select your preferred browser mix by adjusting the sliders in the Distribution column, or by typing the percentage values directly into the % column. For more information, see About the Mix Control.

  4. After you have chosen your preferred mix, click OK.
