IDot11ExtUI::GetDot11ExtUIFriendlyName method

Important  The Native 802.11 Wireless LAN interface is deprecated in Windows 10 and later. Please use the WLAN Device Driver Interface (WDI) instead. For more information about WDI, see WLAN Universal Windows driver model.

The IDot11ExtUI::GetDot11ExtUiFriendlyName method allows the Native 802.11 IHV UI Extensions DLL to return the friendly name of the independent hardware vendor (IHV).

Syntax

HRESULT GetDot11ExtUIFriendlyName(
  [out] BSTR *bstrFriendlyName
);

Parameters

  • bstrFriendlyName [out]
    A pointer to a string buffer allocated by the Native 802.11 IHV UI Extensions DLL. This string buffer contains the friendly name for the IHV.

Return value

If the call succeeds, the method returns S_OK.

If the call fails, the method returns the appropriate error code defined in Winerror.h.

Remarks

The operating system calls the IDot11ExtUI::GetDot11ExtUIProperties method to determine whether the Native 802.11 IHV UI Extensions DLL will extend either the Connection or Security tabs in the network profile configuration UI. If the DLL does extend these tabs, the operating system calls the IDot11ExtUI::GetDot11ExtUiFriendlyName method to add the IHV's friendly name to the UI pages.

The IHV's friendly name is added to the either the Connection tab or the Security tab above the Configure button. If the end user clicks the Configure button, the operating system displays a set of UI pages as specified through the IDot11ExtUI::GetDot11ExtUIProperties method, that is used to configure proprietary connectivity or security settings.

For more information about extending the standard 802.11 properties, see Extending the Properties for Wireless Network Profiles.
