The Administrative Templates extension consists of a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) server-side snap-in used to configure policy settings and a client-side extension that sets registry keys on target computers. Administrative Templates policy is also known as registry-based policy or registry policy. Although other Group Policy extensions manipulate the registry to implement policy settings, the Administrative Templates Extension exists specifically for registry-based policy.
