Use Asian Languages with Telnet
Applies To: Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Vista
Telnet supports the following four Asian languages: Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Traditional Chinese. You must use a TrueType font in the Command Prompt window to properly display the characters used in Asian languages. By default, the Command Prompt window displays characters by using raster fonts.
Because each Telnet session creates a new Command Prompt window, you need to permanently set the properties of the Command Prompt window to use the TrueType fonts if you use the Asian languages on a regular basis.
Important
In order to use Asian languages, Windows 7 and Windows Vista must have the appropriate language version installed, or it must have the appropriate language pack installed by using the Change Display Language tool in Control Panel.
Any user account can be used to complete this procedure.
Configure the command prompt to always use a TrueType font
Open a Command Prompt window. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Command prompt.
Right-click the title bar of the Command Prompt window, and then click Defaults. If you click Properties instead, you change the settings only for the command prompt started by that shortcut.
On the Font tab, select one of the TrueType fonts listed, and then click OK.
