Se il tipo di parametro del metodo ha meno bit (è più piccolo) del tipo di istanza, alcuni linguaggi di programmazione eseguono una conversione verso un tipo di dati più grande implicito che trasforma il valore del parametro in un valore con più CompareTo bit.
Si supponga, ad esempio, che il tipo di Int32 istanza sia e che il tipo di parametro sia Byte . Il compilatore Microsoft C# genera istruzioni per rappresentare il valore del parametro come oggetto, quindi genera un metodo che confronta i valori dell'istanza e la rappresentazione Int32 Int32.CompareTo del Int32 Int32 parametro.
In genere, le conversioni verso un tipo di dati più grande implicite vengono eseguite su tipi numerici.
