È possibile crittografare sezioni di un file di configurazione per proteggere le informazioni riservate usate dall'applicazione. Ciò migliora la sicurezza rendendo difficile l'accesso non autorizzato anche se un utente malintenzionato ottiene l'accesso al file di configurazione.

.NET include due provider di configurazione protetti che possono essere usati per crittografare sezioni di un file di configurazione. La classe RsaProtectedConfigurationProvider usa la RSACryptoServiceProvider per crittografare le sezioni di configurazione. La classe DpapiProtectedConfigurationProvider usa l'API Protezione dati di Windows (DPAPI) per crittografare le sezioni di configurazione.

Potrebbe essere necessario crittografare le informazioni riservate usando un algoritmo diverso dai provider RSA o DPAPI. In questo caso, è possibile creare un provider di configurazione protetto personalizzato. Il ProtectedConfigurationProvider è una classe base astratta da cui è necessario ereditare per creare un provider di configurazione protetto personalizzato.

Indipendentemente dal fatto che si usi un provider standard o personalizzato, è necessario assicurarsi che sia configurato con l'elemento add nella sezione providers della sezione di configurazione configProtectedData. Vedere l'esempio successivo.

Nota

Quando ASP.NET rileva dati di configurazione crittografati, esegue la decrittografia in modo trasparente usando il provider configurato. Non è necessaria alcuna azione sul lato dell'utente, oltre a assicurarsi di configurare il provider richiesto.
