Movetree.exe: Active Directory Object Manager

This command-line tool enables administrators to move Active Directory objects such as contacts between domains in a single forest. Operations such as these are performed to support domain consolidation or organizational restructuring operations.

Important

  • Use the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) included on your Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM to move Active Directory objects such as user, computer, group, and OU. MoveTree should only be used in special cases to handle objects (such as contacts) which cannot currently be migrated by ADMT.

Corresponding UI

To move users or groups within a Windows Server 2003 domain (for example, from one organizational unit to another), use Active Directory Users and Computers, a Microsoft Management Consolesnap-in that is part of Windows Server 2003.

Note

  • You must install Adminpak.msi before you can see the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in in Administrative Tools.
