We did some preliminary VDI capacity testing to identify the maximum VMs per server during the latest PoC and here are some results which can help you.The user is assumed a knowledge worker which runs Office 2007 and a LoB application.
Server Configuration running client VMs:
- DP quad core server with 32GB of RAM and 4 x1 GB NICs
- Connected on an iSCSI storage-attached netwo
- Windows XP VM: 512 MB of RAM
- Windows Vista VM: 1GB of RAM
Results:
- 45 Windows XP VMs per Server
- 30 Windows Vista VMs per Server
