Determines the serialization format for a DataSet.

C#
public enum SerializationFormat

SerializationFormat

Fields

Name Value Description
Xml 0

Serialize as XML content. The default.

Binary 1

Serialize as binary content. Available in ADO.NET 2.0 and later versions only. This field is obsolete starting in .NET 7.

Remarks

Microsoft ADO.NET 2.0 introduced the ability to serialize a DataSet as binary content. Earlier versions of .NET Framework did not support binary serialization. The Binary field is obsolete starting in .NET 7, because it relies on BinaryFormatter, which is inherently insecure.

The default format is Xml. This format is backward compatible and will work with all versions of .NET.
