Dynamics 365 Business Central Upgrade Compatibility Matrix

You can upgrade from one major version of Business Central to the next. However, minor updates are regularly made available for each major release, like 18.11 or 19.6. Whether you're upgrading from one on-premises version to another, or you're migrating to Business Central online, it's important to target an update versions that are compatible with your current version.

Tip

Some versions are marked with 1, which means that the compatible upgrade versions for that version aren't available yet. If you are currently operating on this version, you'll have to wait until the next round of updates before you upgrade.

Before choosing the target version

Before you choose the target version for your upgrade, read the Some Known Issues article. This article will describe issues in Business Central versions that affect upgrade.

Version 20 compatibility

Version 14 compatibility

Note

If you're coming from version 13 or earlier, Business Central Spring 2019 (v14) is a required step to upgrade to the latest version of Business Central. As of October 2021, new customers cannot use this version in production. Existing customers on this version remain supported by Microsoft as defined in the Fixed Lifecycle Policy.

For example, you can upgrade version 14.0 to any 15 or 16 version. You can only upgrade version 14.11 to version 15.5 (or later) or version 16.0 (or later).
