Plan and prepare for AI Builder in 2024 release wave 2

Important

The 2024 release wave 2 plan covers all new functionalities planned to be delivered to market from October 2024 to March 2025. In this article, you'll find the product overview and what's new and planned for AI Builder.

Overview

AI Builder is a low-code AI platform that allows you to use and customize the latest AI models from Azure AI to build intelligent business solutions across Power Platform. AI Builder gives access to the latest Azure AI capabilities, including GPT and document intelligence. This access is done through a form factor that's easily accessible to citizen developers, follows responsible AI principles, and includes enterprise-grade governance and security.

As part of 2024 release wave 2, AI Builder has investments across the following themes:

  • Generative AI prompts: To create advanced AI actions that can be used across copilots, apps built in Power Apps, and Power Automate flows, use AI prompts. New investments include supporting the latest large language models, extending grounding data sources to unstructured data, supporting multi-modal inputs (documents, images), and extending output possibilities (documents, cards).
  • Prompt catalog: Share and reuse prompts across your organization with new prompt template sets.
  • AI governance: Control which AI capabilities are available to makers across environments.

Investment areas

Investment areas

AI governance and administration
Governance and administration cover the key sets of themes that allow admins to deploy and monitor AI activities:

  • Capacity management
  • Usage monitoring
  • Application lifecycle management
  • Access control
  • Sharing and deploying AI models and prompts

Build intelligent solutions with AI capabilities
This area covers all AI model capabilities that are newly available to makers to build more intelligent solutions with AI. It includes expanding the breadth of AI capabilities and the integration surfaces across Microsoft where AI Builder is available.

Extend copilot capabilities with AI
Copilots make business users more productive and satisfied at work. But to truly revolutionize the workplace, copilots need to operate in the specific context of each enterprise.

You can author topics using natural language to describe what you want your topic to do. Copilot includes conversational responses, which you can use as a starting point for further development. For example, makers can add Dataverse data records to their GPT prompts, allowing users to get insights. In addition, you can interact with documents directly from copilot tools, which gives you the ability to quickly extract key learning points from documents. It also generates new document templates to enhance productivity.

Prompt builder
Prompt builder is AI Builder's new interface that allows you to build, test, and deploy generative AI prompts for large language models. Prompts are instructions sent to generative AI models to accomplish a task. You can use prompts to perform a wide range of scenarios, like content generation, content classification, insight generation, or information extraction.

Once you create a prompt, you can use it across multiple Power Platform products to invoke generative AI capabilities in every business solution that you are building, whether it's a copilot, an app, a flow, or a Microsoft Dataverse table. Prompts are also solution-aware components and can be triggered with Power Fx expressions. This allows you to reuse and deploy them across your different low-code components.
