Help Viewer Keyboard Shortcuts

If your mouse is unavailable or if you prefer using the keyboard, you can use keyboard commands to navigate within the Help Viewer. The following sections in this topic identify the keyboard shortcuts that are available in each section of the Help Viewer window:

Help Viewer Keyboard Shortcuts

ALT+C

Display the Contents pane.

ALT+I

Display the Index pane.

ALT+S

Display the Search pane.

ALT+H, P

Display the Help Favorites pane.

ALT+F4

Close the Help Viewer.

ALT+LEFT ARROW

Move back to the previously viewed topic.

ALT+RIGHT ARROW

Move forward to the next (previously viewed) topic.

ALT+SPACEBAR

Display the System menu for the document window that lets you move or resize the window.

ALT+T, O

Display the Options menu.

ALT+V, Z, G

Increase the font to maximum size in the document window.

CTRL+P

Print a topic.

CTRL+A

Highlight all text in the topic pane.

CTRL+END

Move to the end of a topic.

CTRL+HOME

Move to the start of a topic.

CTRL+SHIFT+TAB

Switch to the previous tab in the navigation pane.

CTRL+TAB

Switch to the next tab in the navigation pane.

DOWN ARROW

Move down one topic in the contents or search results list, or scroll down within a topic.

F5

Update the topic that appears in the topic pane.

PAGE DOWN

Move down one page in the table of contents or search results list.

PAGE UP

Move up one page in the table of contents or search results list.

SHIFT+F10

Display the Help Viewer shortcut menu.

TAB

Scroll through all the links in a topic or through all the options on a navigation pane tab.

UP ARROW

Move up one topic in the table of contents or search results list, or scroll up within a topic.

Contents Tab Keyboard Shortcuts

Display the Contents tab.

BACKSPACE

Return to the previous open book.

ENTER

Display the selected topic.

LEFT ARROW

Close a book.

RIGHT ARROW

Open a book.

UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW, or PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN, or HOME and END

Move through the topic list.

Help Favorites Tab Keyboard Shortcuts

ALT+A

Add a topic to the Help Topics list.

ALT+H, P (Help Favorites)

Display the Help Topics list.

ALT+P

Select a topic in the Help Topics list.

DELETE

Remove a topic from the Help Topics list.

ENTER

Display a topic from the Help Topics list.

UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW, or PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN, or HOME and END

Move through the Help Favorites list.

Index Tab Keyboard Shortcuts

Display the Index tab.

ENTER

Display the selected topic.

TAB

Move to the Look for or Filtered by drop-down list boxes, or to the keyword list.

Move through the keyword list.

Search Tab Keyboard Shortcuts

Display the Search tab.

ENTER

Display the selected topic.

TAB

Move to the search box, filter options, or the Search button.

UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW, or PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN, or HOME and END

Move through the search results list.
