Data Protection Manager 2007 Services

While searching on Internet about this piece of information couldn’t really find a place where we had it all together as so I have decided to blog it… mostly because a team mate asked me… :)

 

DPM2007 Server Services

DPM

Implements and manages synchronization and shadow copy creation for protected file servers.

DPMAC

DPM Agent Coordinator

Manages the installation, un-installation, and upgrade of protection agents to remote servers.

DPMWriter

DPM Writer

Manages backup shadow copies of Data Protection Manager replicas, and manages backups of the DPM and DPM Report databases, for purposes of data archival.

DPMLA

DPM Library Agent

Manages the tape library.

DPMRA

DPM Recovery Agent

Helps back up and recover file and application data to the Data Protection Manager.

SwPrv

Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider

Manages software-based volume shadow copies taken by the Volume Shadow Copy service. If this service is stopped, software-based volume shadow copies cannot be managed. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

VSS

Volume Shadow Copy

Manages and implements Volume Shadow Copies used for backup and other purposes. If this service is stopped, shadow copies will be unavailable for backup and the backup may fail. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.
