Industry Templates For CRM 2013
Strike Up The Band…
Last week at Microsoft Convergence EMEA 2013 we announced the imminent availability of a number of industry-specific templates for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013, providing additional functionality for businesses in sectors as diverse as Wealth Management and Local Government. The good news is that are now available for download, free of charge, from Microsoft Pinpoint (the Microsoft Dynamics app store).
I particularly would like to draw your attention to the “Microsoft Dynamics CRM Deal, On Boarding and Account Planning Process” template, which was developed by my good friend and UK CRM colleague, Mark Margolis. Prior to joining Microsoft last year, Mark worked in the financial services sector, building systems for buy-side & sell-side firms as well as corporate banking and wealth management customers. I have demoed this template to my customers several times over the last month or so, and without fail, every single one has been impressed with its power and simplicity.
The template includes the following CRM configurations, as well as some sample data to get you started:
- Six business processes to handle on boarding and account management for new and existing clients.
- Two dashboards: one tailored for account planning and one for on boarding new clients.
- Two dialogs to help employees gather required information from clients.
- Workflows and security roles to support the business processes.
- Three custom entities: “Account Plan”, “Account Plan Product”, and “On Boarding”.
Here are the links to all the templates currently available. Enjoy!

Microsoft Dynamics CRM Grant Management Process

This solution allows grant managers to stay on top of the grant process from application to the allocation of funds. This business process helps professional sports teams manage the sale of tickets and merchandise to fans. This solution also helps organisations track players and teams, including injuries, scouting reports, drug testing results, and contracts.
Microsoft Dynamics Solution Selling® - Short Sales Cycle
A shorter sale assumes a sales cycle of only a few meetings, generally 2 to 3. The seller employs a repeatable approach using defined sales process steps and sales tools. The opportunity is a “solution” sale where the seller has multiple offerings and proposes solutions based on the buyer’s needs. The seller may initiate the opportunity directly with a decision maker and require less need for risk mitigation and proof steps.
Microsoft Dynamics Solution Selling® - Strategic/Complex Sales Cycle
The longer sale assumes a sales cycle of several meetings, generally 5 or more. The seller engages a repeatable approach using defined sales process steps and sales tools. Opportunities require meeting with one or more sponsors and decision makers throughout the sales cycle, highlighting the need for effective risk mitigation. The opportunity is a “solution” sale with multiple potential offerings and often benefits from an account management focus.
Microsoft Dynamics Solution Selling® Transactional Sales Cycle
A transactional sale assumes a “one call” close sales cycle. The opportunity may be identified when the prospect proactively contacts the business - “inbound” call, or may be initiated by a sales representative contacting an identified prospect - “outbound” call. A transactional sales process is generally highly customised and/or scripted and may be a focused “product” sale. It is important the sales approach be clearly defined and repeatable, while the sales process may be less important.

Thanks for compiling and sharing all these solutions. We are exploring Dynamics 2013 and what could be better way than to do it with these industry-specific solutions. One thing though - we have just started to explore and so far none of them are working with Dynamics 2013 Online. Any idea what am I missing?Anonymous

There's a couple of things you need to take into consideration when importing the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Deal, On Boarding and Account Planning Process solution:
- Don't import the .cab file you get from Pinpoint, instead extract it. Inside you'll find a .zip file which you'll again need to extract to finally get to the actual solution file, named "Microsoft Dynamics CRM Deal, Onboardin, Account Planning Process_managed.zip".
- Don't import this file just yet. The schema name of this solution is "msdynFinServDealAccountPlanningandOnboardingProcess", which is in total 51 characters. That's more than CRM can handle, which means you'll get an error when importing the solution, saying "0x80048033 - String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated." To get around this, you'll need to once more extract the solution zip file, edit the solution.xml file and remove one character from the UniqueName parameter you'll find at the beginning of the file. Re-zip the contents of the folder into a new solution .zip file, now try importing it into CRM. I'm not quite sure how the 51 character solution name has been accomplished since CRM will only allow you to have 50 characters in the name while creating a solution in the customization UI.
