How to: Find and Edit Work Items Assigned to You

You can find work items assigned to you by using queries.

Note

This topic is based on the work item queries and fields available in MSF for Agile Software Development. If your project is using a different methodology, your work item queries and fields may be different. MSF for Agile Software Development is one of the process guidance templates that are included with Team Foundation. For more information, see Finding and Using Process Guidance.

Required Permissions

To perform these procedures, you must be a member of the Contributors group or have the View work items in this node, and Edit work items in this node permissions set to Allow. To save a query as a team query, you must be a member of the Project Administrators group. For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.

To find work items assigned to you

  1. Open an existing team project.

  2. In Team Explorer, select Work Items.

  3. On the Team menu, select Add Query.

    Note

    Your team project may already have a query in Team Queries that you can use to search for your work items.

  4. The first query clause contains the following values. Keep these default values.

    And/Or Field Operator Value

    Team Project

    =

    @Project

  5. In the second query clause, enter the values shown in the following table.

    And/Or Field Operator Value

    And

    Assigned To

    =

    @Me

  6. On the Team menu, select Run Query.

  7. In the Query Results, select the work items that you want to view or change.

  8. If you want to save the query, see How to: Save Work Item Queries.

To edit items assigned to you in View Results

  1. Open and run a query.

  2. Examine the Query tab to see whether it display [Results] after the query name. If it displays [Query] after the query name, click View Results.

  3. Select an item in the Query Results and then edit it in the pane below. All work items are automatically opened for editing.

  4. After you complete your changes on the first item, continue to the next. A pencil appears next to all edited items in the Query Results and an asterisk appears on the tab that indicates that your changes have not yet been saved.

  5. To save all work items at the same time, click the File menu, and click Save <query name> [Results].
