You Receive an Error Message Related to Mailbox Access When You Enable a User Account for Unified Messaging in Exchange 2007

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 will reach end of support on April 11, 2017. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

This topic provides information about how to troubleshoot issues that you may experience when you try to enable a user account for Unified Messaging (UM) in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.

When you run the Set-UMMailboxPin cmdlet, you receive the following error message:

An error occurred while accessing the mailbox for user <UserName>. Please see the event logs on the server <ServerName> for more information.

When a user tries to reset his or her PIN, the e-mail message that contains the new PIN is sent to the Drafts folder in Microsoft Office Outlook. In this scenario, the following event is logged in the Application log:

Event Type: Warning

Event Source: MSExchange Unified Messaging

Event ID: 1174

Description: An error occurred while performing the following operation: 'Submit PIN Reset Message' for user '<UserName>'. 'Cannot submit message'.

When you configure a user's PIN to enable that user's account for Unified Messaging, an error occurs. In this scenario, Exchange 2007 does not send a Welcome e-mail message to that particular user.

Cause

This problem occurs when the Exchange server computer account (ServerName$) does not have sufficient permissions to access the VoiceMessageOriginator stub object.
