Moving Groove Server Relay program files to a new location

Applies to: Groove Server 2010

Topic Last Modified: 2010-01-19

This procedure describes how to move the complete collection of Groove Server Relay program files (including the Groove Server Relay key files, registry settings, and database and log files) to another volume on the same server. For information about how to move only the Data directories to another location, see Managing Groove Server Relay databases.

To move Relay program files to a new server, conduct a full Groove Server Relay installation on the new server as described in Install and configure Groove Server 2010 Relay, and then use Groove Server Manager to assign SharePoint Workspace users to the new Relay server as described in Assigning Relay servers to SharePoint Workspace users.

This procedure requires that Groove Server Relay is installed as described in Install and configure Groove Server 2010 Relay.

To move the Relay program files to a new volume on the same server

  1. Back up your server completely, in case you encounter problems with this procedure and you need to restore the original data.

  2. Back up all key files and registry settings, as previously described in Backing up important files for Groove Server Relay. For information about the Groove Server Manager key and how to register Relay servers with Groove Server Manager, see Registering Relay servers with Groove Server Manager.

  3. Back up the Data directories, located by default in the \Data subdirectory of the Groove Server Relay installation directory.

  4. Uninstall Groove Server Relay completely, as described in Uninstalling Groove Server Relay.

  5. Confirm that the Groove Relay service is no longer listed in the Windows Services manager.

  6. Conduct a full Groove Server Relay installation in the new location.

    Note

Do not start the Groove Relay service until the last step.

  7. Examine the Groove Relay service Parameters key in the Windows registry and note the new path locations for all referenced files. You must restore these paths manually in a later step.

  8. Copy the key files and registry settings from the backup copies. Key files usually reside in the Groove Server Relay installation directory, unless you have changed their default paths. Note that this step will overlay the new installation path values with the previous installation path values.

  9. Edit the path values in the Groove Relay Service Parameters key, so that the paths are again pointing to the new locations.

  10. Copy the backed up Data directories to the new locations.

  11. Configure the Groove Server Relay to point to the new Data directory with the required access controls, by opening the Groove Relay control panel item, clicking the Tuning tab, and then changing the directory, as described in Managing Groove Server Relay databases.

  12. Start the Groove Relay service.

The Groove Relay service will now look for all key files, registry settings, and data files in the new location.
