COM Components Tab, Choose Toolbox Items Dialog Box

This tab of the Choose Toolbox Items dialog box lists all of the COM components registered on your computer. To display this list, first select Choose Toolbox Items from the Tools menu to display the Choose Toolbox Items dialog box, and then select its COM Components tab. To sort the list of COM components, click any column header.

  • When the check box next to an item is selected, an icon for that item will be displayed in the Toolbox.

    Tip

To add an instance of a COM component to a project document opened for editing, you can then select its Toolbox icon and drag it onto the Design view surface. Default code for the component is inserted into your document, ready for you to configure. For more information, see How to: Manage the Toolbox Window and How to: Manipulate Toolbox Tabs.

  • When the check box next to a COM component is cleared, no icon will be displayed in the Toolbox for that component.

    Note

The COM components installed on your computer remain available whether or not icons for them are displayed in the Toolbox.

The components list in this dialog box provides the following columns of information:

  • Name
Lists the COM components that appear in your computer's registry. Next to each component name is a check box. When this check box is selected, an icon for that component will be displayed on the active Toolbox tab. When it is cleared, no icon will be displayed.

  • Path
Displays the full path to the component. To identify default components that shipped with Visual Studio, sort on this column and then locate those components stored on the Visual Studio installation path.

  • Library
Displays the name of the library that includes the component.

  • Last Modified
Displays the date when the component was last modified.
