Q&A Assist: Get answers faster with AI
Q&A Assist is a feature that uses AI to help you find answers to your questions on Microsoft Q&A. It can:
- Find similar questions that have been asked before
- Answer your question using Microsoft Learn documentation
- Give you feedback on how to write a clear and complete question
- Rewrite your question in a different way
Enter your question and choose from the options after the question body to get help.
Q&A Assist limitations
Q&A Assist has some limitations that you should be aware of:
- Q&A Assist uses Azure OpenAI Service, which offers industry-leading coding and language AI models that are fine-tuned to help you find answers faster. It may give you irrelevant suggestions that don't match the problem you're trying to solve. If you find content that doesn't match your question, send us feedback so we can make it better.
- Write your questions in English for the best results from Q&A Assist.
- Q&A Assist may have a limit on how often it can provide suggestions.
- Q&A Assist may not make recommendations for new or rare topics, for which there are only a few similar questions available on Q&A.
- Q&A Assist may recommend old or outdated questions if they're similar to your draft question.
- Q&A Assist isn't a substitute for search. We recommend you do a quick search on your preferred search engine or on Microsoft Learn before posting a question.
If you aren't sure if any of the suggestions help you, ignore them and post the question.
How to use Q&A Assist
When you ask a question on Microsoft Q&A, you see a banner on the top with an introduction to Q&A Assist. You can dismiss the banner if you don't want to see it again.
The Q&A Assist panel is at the bottom of the "Ask a question" page with four options:
- Find similar questions
- Answer my question
- Get question feedback
- Rewrite for me
You can use any of these buttons to get help from Q&A Assist. You can also turn off Q&A Assist by toggling the switch on the panel.
Find similar questions
This option helps you search for similar questions that have been asked before on Microsoft Q&A. You might find an answer to your question without posting it.
To use this option, type your question and select the "Find similar questions" button. Q&A Assist shows up to seven suggestions of available questions that match your query. They're ordered by relevance from highest to lowest. Some of them have answers and some of them don't.
You can select any of the suggestions to open the question thread and see if it has the answer you're looking for. Q&A saves your question draft automatically and it's available when you come back to the "Ask a question" page.
If the question has answers, you can vote on them if they help you solve your problem.
If the question doesn't have answers and it's the same as yours, you can follow it to get notified when someone answers it. Make sure you have enabled email notifications.
"Find similar questions" limitations
- Suggestion for similar matches may not be relevant to your question because Q&A Assist generates responses from the full list of available questions on Microsoft Q&A. Be sure to verify the suggested questions match the problem you're trying to resolve.
- "Find similar questions" doesn't look for matches within your code snippet(s).
- "Find similar questions" may not make recommendations for new issues/topics, for which there are only a few similar questions already available on Q&A.
- "Find similar questions" may recommend old or outdated questions if they're similar to your draft question.
- Requesting suggestions on a similar question draft may result on the same output.
Answer my question
This option helps you get an answer to your question using Microsoft Learn documentation. You might want to use this button if you have a simple or common question that AI can answer accurately.
To use this option, type your question and select the "Answer my question" button. Q&A Assist generates a possible answer to your question, along with citations and sources from Microsoft Learn documentation.
If the answer solves your question, check the box "Include Q&A Assist's answer with my question post" before posting your question. You're helping other users with the same question get their answer faster. It also helps experts give you a better answer if they have a more efficient way to solve your problem.
If the answer doesn't help you or you're unsure, you can post your question without the answer. An expert will give you an answer once they review it.
Get question feedback
This option helps you write a complete question so that you can get the specific information you're looking for.
To use this option, type your question and select the "Get instant feedback" button. Q&A Assist shows AI-powered suggestions on how to improve your question so that it can be answered more effectively.
You can make changes to your question based on the suggestions and select the button again to check if there's anything else you can do to make your question better.
Rewrite for me
This option helps you rewrite your question in a different way. You might want to use this button if you aren't sure how to express your question or if you want to avoid duplication.
To use this option, type your question and select the "Rewrite for me" button. Q&A Assist creates an alternate version of your question generated by AI. You can use all or some of the suggestions to better explain your question while keeping your own style.
"Rewrite for me" limitation
"Rewrite for me" might not include images or code you included in your question draft. You can select "Rewrite for me" to generate a new draft that includes that content, or manually included after using the "Replace my draft" option.
Privacy
Microsoft stores your question draft to evaluate the accuracy of the suggestions. Read our Microsoft Privacy Statement to learn more about how to access and control your data or about how Microsoft uses your personal data.
