How to Add Servers to the Staging Console

For the latest version of Commerce Server 2007 Help, see the Microsoft Web site.

This topic provides instructions about how to add servers to the staging console. Commerce Server Staging (CSS) lets you manage multiple servers from a single, centralized location. By default, Commerce Server installation only adds the local server to the staging console. To modify remote server properties through the staging console, you must have administrative rights on those servers, and you must add the servers to the staging console.

When you manage remote servers through the staging console, CSS cannot read certain resources on the remote server, for example, source sites and catalogs. You cannot enter a staging authentication account for the remote server. Change authentication information by logging into the remote server and changing the project properties there.

To add servers to the staging console

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Commerce Server 2007 , and then click Commerce Server Staging.

  2. In the Commerce Server Staging console, in the left pane, right-click Commerce Server Staging, and then click Add Host.

  3. In the Add Host dialog box, click Specific server, type the name of the server that you want to add to the staging console, and then click OK.

  4. (Optional) In the Add Host dialog box, select the Connect using an authentication account check box, type a user name and password, and then click OK. This will let you add the CSS server by using a different management account than the person who runs the staging console.

  5. To manage the added server in the staging console, expand Commerce Server Staging, and then right-click or expand <server name> for the new server that you added.

  6. To change the management authentication account for a server that you have added to the staging console, right-click the server that you want to change, and then click Set Authentication. In the Connection Settings dialog box, type a user name and password to use to connect to the server, and then click OK.
