How to: Edit Pronunciations in Grammar Editor

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

Use Pronunciation Editor to define custom pronunciations of single-word Phrase elements. By default, Speech API (SAPI) provides default pronunciations for all words. These default pronunciations are comprised of phonemes, which are abstract categories of speech sounds (vowels and consonants) grouped together to create words. Use Pronunciation Editor to create custom pronunciations of single words.

Defining Custom Pronunciations

To define a custom pronunciation

  1. In the Rule Editor window, right-click a Phrase element that contains a single word, and then click Properties.

  2. In the Properties window, click Pronunciation, and then click the browse (...) button to open Pronunciation Editor.

  3. In the Default pronunciations pane, select a pronunciation, and then add it to the Custom pronunciations pane.

  4. In the Default pronunciations pane, modify pronunciations.

  5. Click OK to save pronunciations and close Pronunciation Editor.
