How to Configure a Subscriber Access Number on a Unified Messaging Dial Plan

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 will reach end of support on April 11, 2017. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007, Exchange Server 2007 SP1, Exchange Server 2007 SP2, Exchange Server 2007 SP3

This topic explains how to use the Exchange Management Console and the Exchange Management Shell to configure a subscriber access number on a Unified Messaging (UM) dial plan. A subscriber access number lets a UM-enabled user access their Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 mailbox by using Outlook Voice Access. When you configure a subscriber access number on a dial plan, UM-enabled users can call in to the subscriber access number, log on to their Exchange 2007 mailbox, and access their e-mail, voice mail, calendar, and personal contact information.

By default, when you create a UM dial plan, a subscriber access number is not configured. To configure a subscriber access number, you must first create the dial plan and then configure a subscriber access number on the dial plan's Subscriber Access tab. Although a subscriber access number is not required, you must configure at least a single subscriber access number to enable a UM-enabled user to use Outlook Voice Access to access to their Exchange 2007 mailbox. You can also configure multiple subscriber access numbers for a single dial plan. For more information about UM dial plans, see Understanding Unified Messaging Dial Plans.

For more information about the menu options that are available for Outlook Voice Access users, see the Quick Reference Guide for Outlook Voice Access, which is available from the Microsoft Download Center.

Before You Begin

To perform the following procedures, the account you use must be delegated the Exchange Organization Administrator role.

For more information about permissions, delegating roles, and the rights that are required to administer Exchange 2007, see Permission Considerations.

Also, before you perform these procedures, confirm that a UM dial plan has been created.
