How to: Repair the Content Database

When you access a Web site for Team Foundation, one of the following errors might appear:

  • The Web site that is referenced here is not in the configuration database.

  • The virtual server that is referenced here is not in the configuration database.

Visual Studio Team System Team Foundation Server requires that content and configuration databases for SharePoint Products and Technologies must show the same number of Web sites, also known as the site count. If the site counts do not match, the content database for SharePoint Products and Technologies might be corrupted or some sites might be orphaned. To resolve this issue, you must repair the content database.

To repair the content database in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

  • Remove and re-add the content database.

For more information, see How to: Redirect SharePoint Products and Technologies to Use a New Content Database.

    Note

When you remove the content database, you remove the reference to the database for the Web application that you specified. The list of sites in the content database is removed from the configuration database, but the content database and its data are unchanged. When you re-add the content database, the sites that are stored in the content database are re-added to the configuration database.

To repair the content database in Windows SharePoint Services 2.0

  1. Obtain the update that repairs content databases and removes orphaned sites.

For more information, see "Description of a new command-line operation that you can use to repair content databases in Windows SharePoint Services 2.01" on the Microsoft Web site.

  2. If the problem persists, remove and re-add the content database.

For more information, see How to: Redirect SharePoint Products and Technologies to Use a New Content Database.
