A interface IDictionary é a interface base para coleções não genéricas de pares chave/valor. Para obter a versão genérica dessa interface, consulte System.Collections.Generic.IDictionary<TKey,TValue>.
Cada elemento é um par chave/valor armazenado em um objeto DictionaryEntry.
Cada par deve ter uma chave exclusiva. As implementações podem variar se permitem que a chave seja nula. O valor pode ser nulo e não precisa ser exclusivo. A interface IDictionary permite que as chaves e os valores contidos sejam enumerados, mas não implica nenhuma ordem de classificação específica.
IDictionary implementações se enquadram em três categorias: somente leitura, tamanho fixo, tamanho variável. Um objeto IDictionary somente leitura não pode ser modificado. Um objeto IDictionary de tamanho fixo não permite a adição ou remoção de elementos, mas permite a modificação de elementos existentes. Um objeto IDictionary de tamanho variável permite a adição, remoção e modificação de elementos.
A instrução foreach
da linguagem C# (For Each
no Visual Basic) retorna um objeto do tipo dos elementos na coleção. Como cada elemento do objeto IDictionary é um par chave/valor, o tipo de elemento não é o tipo da chave ou o tipo do valor. Em vez disso, o tipo de elemento é DictionaryEntry. Por exemplo:
