Bin Code Field, Prod. Order Component Table
Specifies the bin in which the component is to be placed before it is consumed. The bin code may be automatically inserted based on the setup of the machine center, work center, or location where the component is to be consumed. However, you can enter a different bin code according to bin availability by looking up and selecting the code from the Bin Contents List window.
The bin code type must be PUTAWAY or no bin type code. This ensures that other warehouse activities, such as picking, shipping, or receiving will not accidentally take or place items in the assembly area.
Additional Information
If you use bin codes to pick components, then the Bin Code field can be filled with either a to-production bin code or an open shop floor bin code, depending on the production setup on the location card, on the Bins FastTab, or on the work or machine center card, on the Warehouse FastTab, of the production resource where the component is consumed.
For an illustration of how components are handled in the Bin Code field on production order component lines, see Filling the Consumption Bin.
Bin codes that are set up on location cards or machine center cards define a default warehouse flow for specific activities, such as components in a production department. Additional functionality exists to make sure that items are unavailable to other activities when they are placed in a certain bin. For more information, see the Dedicated field.
Note
Because the bin code on production order component lines is partly defined by the flushing method and the routing link code of the component, the values in the three fields can change interdependently, or you may see warnings when you change a bin code, flushing method, or routing link code on the line.
Note
When you use inventory picks, this field defines the take bin from where components are decreased when posting consumption, which happens automatically when you register the inventory pick. When you use inventory movements, however, the field defines the place bin in the operation area where the warehouse worker must place the components so that the machine operator can use them and later post their consumption.
