Accessing Configuration Information in IIS Manager

This topic provides procedures for accessing configuration information at different nodes in the metabase.

For information about common administrative tasks, see the Getting Started section of the IIS User Documentation.

Accessing Configuration Information

IIS Manager can manage multiple IIS servers, each of which appears under the Internet Information Services node in the console tree. The local IIS server is listed by default.

To connect to other IIS servers from IIS Manager

  1. In IIS Manager, double-click either Internet Information Services or (local computer).

  2. Click the Action menu item and click Connect. Alternatively, you can right-click on either Internet Information Services or (local computer), and then click Connect.

  3. In the Computer Name text box, type the name of the computer to which you want to connect. If you are not an administrator on the other computer, select the Connect as check box and type the user name and password of an administrator for the computer to which you want to connect.

  4. Click OK. If the versions of IIS are incompatible, a pop-up window appears with instructions.

To configure properties and services from IIS Manager

  1. IIS can be configured by clicking an item on the console tree and then clicking the Action menu item. You can also right-click an item in the console tree to view a drop-down list of possible actions. All actions that are permitted are displayed in the drop-down list.

  2. To configure metabase properties, right-click the item in the console tree that you want to configure, and then click Properties on the drop-down list of possible actions. Not all metabase properties can be configured in IIS Manager. For a list of those that can be configured in IIS Manager, see Configuring Properties in IIS Manager.
