Determine If You Need to Import Configuration Data for Desired Configuration Management

You might need to import configuration data in Configuration Manager 2007 for the following reasons:

  • You want to compare the configuration of your computers with best practice configurations from a Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Configuration Pack.

  • Separate teams in your organization have created their own configuration baseline or configuration item for the computer roles or applications they own.

  • You have created configuration data on a test network and need to move it over to your production network.

  • You have exported configuration data as a backup precaution and want to restore it on the same Configuration Manager 2007 site.
