Determine If You Need to Create Child Configuration Items for Desired Configuration Management

You might need to create child configuration items in Configuration Manager 2007 for the following reasons:

• You want to refine the configuration items you have imported or inherited from a parent site, by making the validation criteria more restrictive, or by adding new properties.

• You are using a layered administration model by creating a base configuration item to be used for many computers and then need to create a number of different refinements for different computers.

Importante

When you create a child configuration item, the child retains a relationship to the original configuration item. Therefore, if the original configuration item is updated, any revisions are passed to the child configuration item. Additionally, if the original child item is deleted, any child configuration items are also automatically deleted.
