Managing Dynamic Update for a Zone

Dynamic update enables Domain Name System (DNS) client computers to register and dynamically update their resource records with a DNS server whenever changes occur. This reduces the need for manual administration of zone records, especially for clients that frequently move or change locations and use Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to obtain an IP address.
You can configure a zone to accept dynamic updates. In addition, for a zone that is integrated with Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), you can configure the zone to accept only secure updates, that is, updates that are allowed by the discretionary access control lists (DACLs) that protect the resource records.
Important
We strongly recommend that you configure the zone that hosts an AD DS domain to allow dynamic updates. If the zone does not accept dynamic updates, domain controllers will be unable to register their service location (SRV) resource records and AD DS will stop functioning properly.
