How to Configure a Database Server

This topic describes the sequence of tasks to follow when configuring a database server. Procedures are provided for the following four types of database server configurations:

  • Non-clustered database server that is running SQL Server 2005 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or SQL Server 2008.

  • Clustered database server that is running SQL Server 2005 with SP2 or SQL Server 2008

Note

To configure the Data Warehouse and analysis server, see Configuring the Data Warehouse and Analysis Server.

As an optional step, you can start the Commerce Server Volume Shadow Copy Writer Service (VSS). This service provides extra functionality for the backup and restoration of Commerce Server 2009 through the Windows Server System (WSS) VSS framework. For conceptual information, see Volume Shadow Copy Writer Service. For information about how to start VSS, see How to Start the Commerce Server Volume Shadow Copy Writer Service.

To configure a non-clustered database server that is running SQL Server 2005 with SP2

  1. Configure the database server network adapters. For more information, see How to Configure the Database Server Network Adapters.

  2. Join the domain on the database servers. For more information, see Windows Server 2003 Help or Windows Server 2008.

  3. Install SQL Server 2005 with SP2 on the database server. For more information, see How to Install SQL Server 2005.
